MINERAL POINT RAILROAD SOCIETY
Built in 1856 from locally quarried limestone and regional timber by skilled Cornish stonemasons, the Mineral Point depot is recognized as the oldest surviving railroad depot in Wisconsin and the oldest surviving structure of the former Milwaukee Road.
For more than a century, the depot served as an important link between Mineral Point and the wider region. After railroad operations in the depot ended and the building was vacated in 1969, the Mineral Point Railroad Society was formed in 2000 to preserve and restore this historic landmark and promote community awareness of local railroad history.
Following years of dedicated restoration, the depot reopened as the Mineral Point Railroad Museum on September 2, 2004, preserving an important piece of Wisconsin's transportation and local community heritage for future generations.
